Completion of the Northern Cape Rural TVET College Upington 4IR Hub

The Northern Cape Rural TVET College (NCR) is proud to announce the completion of its 4IR Hub at the Upington Campus. This milestone is a testament to our commitment to equipping the youth of the Northern Cape with future-focused skills and entrepreneurial pathways. Mr Percy Sego, CEO and Principle of the NCR TVET
Guided by the vision of the former Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Honourable Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, to “we aim to build a capable 4IR Army,” this initiative aligns with the PC4IR recommendations and the Northern Cape’s Provincial future vision. Spearheaded by the College Principal and CEO, Mr Percy Sego, and supported by the DHE, strategic partners and industry stakeholders, the Upington 4IR Hub aims to position NCR as a leading college in digital and entrepreneurial education.
Scheduled for official launch in February 2025, the Upington Hub will be the fourth bespoke digital and entrepreneurship hub within NCR’s campuses. This follows the completion of the Namakwa Digital Hub at the Namaqualand Campus in Okiep in August 2024.

The new cutting-edge facility will focus on transformative technologies, including:

• 3D and 4D Printing
• Coding and Data Science
• Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR)
• Machine Learning
• Autonomous Mobility (drones for air, sea, and land) and
• Renewable Energy Simulation

Over the next two years, a phased approach will introduce these initiatives to upskill lecturers, empower students, and support youth-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
This achievement marks another step in NCR’s journey towards becoming a leading digital and entrepreneurial college with hubs in DeAar, Kathu, Namaqualand and now Upington, driving the integration of cyber physical systems to foster innovation and opportunity for the region’s youth.

Stay tuned for the launch of both Namakwa Digital Hub and the Upington 4IR Hub and a “future where innovation meets opportunity in the Northern Cape”.
